Dental Implants in Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint

At North Idaho Dental Group, we have seen the toll that tooth loss takes on someone’s comfort and confidence. Chewing and eating can be painful or difficult, speaking clearly may be a challenge, and it’s draining to feel self-conscious about your smile’s appearance.

The result is a reduced quality of life, and that’s not what we want for our patients. We offer tooth replacement with dental implants at our Coeur d’Alene and Ponderay dental offices so you can focus on what really matters—enjoying a full and happy life.

A dental implant is a titanium post that acts as a replacement for the real root after tooth loss. The biocompatible implant is placed in the jawbone, and as it heals, it integrates with the bone and tissue surrounding it.

This process is called osseointegration, and it takes about 3–6 months for the implant to complete. After healing, our dentists place a custom dental crown on the implant so you can chew your favorite foods comfortably and share a confident smile.

Benefits of Dental Implants in Sandpoint

Because a dental implant is a full tooth replacement, it offers benefits that dental bridges and dentures don’t.

  • An implant tooth looks, feels, and functions most like a natural tooth.
  • The presence of the dental implant promotes jawbone health.
  • Dental implants are so stable they can support a single crown, a dental bridge, or a complete denture.
  • An implant becomes part of your dental anatomy and can provide a lifetime of use when cared for properly.

The Process for Getting a Dental Implant in Coeur d'Alene

Placing a dental implant is a minor surgical procedure best handled by experienced dentists. Our dentists attend hundreds of hours of continuing education on the intricacies of implants, and you couldn’t be in more capable hands.

Implant placement is not painful because we use a strong local anesthetic to completely numb the area so you won’t feel anything. Any post-operative sensitivity in the days following is typically easy to control with over-the-counter remedies.

At NIDG, we use 3-D cone beam CT scans and state-of-the-art software to evaluate the bone and plan implant placement with a high degree of surgical precision. The result is a more comfortable, efficient procedure with better outcomes and less time in the dental chair for the patient.

Recovery usually takes only a day or two, and healing is the longest part of the process. The final step is to attach the custom dental crown restoration to the implant to restore full chewing function and complete your smile.

Bone Grafting and Sinus Lifts

In some cases, performing bone grafting or a sinus lift is necessary before we can place an implant. Our implant dentists perform both procedures, and you can learn more about both of them on our oral surgery page.

Dental Implants and Dentures

If you need to replace all missing teeth in an upper or lower arch, we can place just a few implants to support full dentures. We offer both implant dentures and All-on-4® dentures, and both types provide full function and stability. You can eat all the foods you love, and laugh and smile confidently, knowing your dentures will stay securely in place.

At North Idaho Dental Group, our dentists are highly skilled and trained in dental implantology. If you are looking for tooth replacement, an implant can be an excellent choice.

When you lose a tooth and its root, the bone that supported it starts to break down. Over time, surrounding teeth can become mobile and even lead to additional tooth loss. Bone loss can also contribute to a sunken, aged facial appearance.

A tooth implant helps prevent further bone loss by stimulating bone regeneration as a natural root would. Protecting the jawbone's integrity also contributes to a fuller, more youthful facial appearance.

Other Benefits of Dental Implants in Coeur d'Alene

An implant tooth is the closest thing in dentistry to a real tooth. After it heals, the implant post becomes so stable that it can support a crown that allows you eat all your favorite foods comfortably again.

When we restore the implant with a beautiful custom dental crown, the result is a replacement tooth that mimics the form and function of a real tooth.

Are You a Good Implant Candidate?

Some determining factors for implant placement are bone quality and quantity, sinus proximity, and proximity to adjacent teeth.

At NIDG, we use 3-D cone beam CT scans and state-of-the-art software to evaluate the bone and plan implant placement with a high degree of surgical precision. The result is a more comfortable, efficient procedure with better outcomes and less time in the dental chair for the patient.

Our dentists would love to discuss all the benefits of dental implants with you. Please call our Coeur d'Alene or Ponderay dental office to schedule an appointment.

3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomograhy (CBCT)

3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomograhy (CBCT)

We use 3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), a leading-edge technology that shows your entire mouth and surrounding structures in a single image. Our digital x-rays are invaluable and provide a two-dimensional image of your teeth and the details we need to see for most procedures.

However, when planning dental implant placement, extractions, and root canals that require a high degree of precision, we need to view the teeth and all the surrounding structures.

Using CBCT gives us a comprehensive, 360-degree view of your mouth in 3-D. The CT scan displays teeth, gum structure, and sinuses and shows bone thickness and nerve orientation. It’s essential to see these details to ensure a comfortable, efficient procedure and the best possible long-term outcomes.
