Are you covering your mouth when you smile because of tooth discoloration? Or maybe you recently whitened your teeth and want to ensure you don’t develop new tooth stains. If either of these sounds like you, continue reading to learn more and take the 30-day smile challenge.

Daily Habits to Brighten Your Smile

To keep your smile bright, be sure to visit your dentist every six months for professional teeth cleanings and checkups.

Daily, we recommend the following:

  • Brush your teeth after every meal or at least twice daily.
  • Floss your teeth after every meal or at least once daily.
  • Avoid or reduce tooth-staining foods and drinks daily, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and brightly colored sauces, or limit them and establish designated treat days.

A special note: If you smoke, consider quitting. It stains your teeth but also leads to a variety of health complications.

Also, if you have significant tooth stains, consider professional teeth whitening before your 30-day challenge. This gives you a fresh, bright smile to maintain, instead of eliminating stains that are already there.

30-Day Challenge with Your Dentist in Ponderay or Coeur d’Alene, ID

Start your 30-day challenge with best practices, such as brushing and flossing. Then, you can incorporate other tips into your challenge. It’s essential to remember that certain foods also help combat existing tooth stains.

Daily Challenge:

Brush Your Teeth After Meals or at Least Twice Daily
Floss Your Teeth After Meals or at Least Once Daily
Use a Whitening Toothpaste for One Brushing Session Daily (check with your dentist)
Drink 8 Glasses of Water Daily to Hydrate Your Mouth and Wash Away Tooth-Staining Debris
Snack on Fiber-Rich Foods, Such as Carrots, Celery, and Strawberries to Mitigate Staining

Of course, adding challenge prompts is just as important as curbing bad habits, such as drinking soda and overindulging in coffee. Ask our hygienist for a list of tooth-staining foods to eliminate in support of your 30-day challenge.
